Many of the other namesakes developed statistic theory after dealing with some theoretical problem; Bayes was simply just trying to understand the way the world worked. It appears that he took more a philosophical approach to statistics than other theorists. This demonstrates how statistics can explain every day events versus just experiments done in the laboratory. <br />What surprises me the most is Bayes' lack of publishing. We use statistics as a way to get published and make scientific theory. Yet, the mind behind the theory we use didn't even get published. Even without an impressive publication history, Bayes was able to significantly impact future scientists and statisticians. This perhaps should serve as a reminder that we should focus on our intellectual drive and questions versus just publishing.
